According to Arnaldo Marrero, Professional soccer is set to return to Puerto Rico, with a USL Championship franchise expected to launch in 2025. Baseball legend Yadier Molina and his team of investors, that includes Bad Bunny, have already signed a contract to bring the team to the island, with renovations planned for Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel in Bayamón to host home games.
This marks a resurgence of professional soccer on the island, which has seen prominent teams in the past, including the Puerto Rico Islanders (2003–2012) and Puerto Rico FC (2015–2017). Despite these teams’ successes, professional soccer has been absent for several years.
The new project has significant backing, with Molina and his team aiming to enhance soccer infrastructure, boost its popularity, and provide opportunities for local talent. Renovations to Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel will create a modern venue for fans and players, revitalizing its status as a hub for Puerto Rican soccer.
