Chicago Fire is reportedly close to signing Côte d’Ivoire international and La Liga side Celta Vigo winger on a permanent transfer. The move, first reported by Fabrizio Romano, would see the 28-year-old join the Fire.
Bamba brings significant experience and quality to Chicago, having spent the majority of his career in Ligue 1 with LOSC Lille. During his time in France, he was instrumental in Lille’s remarkable 2020-2021 Ligue 1 title-winning campaign. That achievement stands out as one of the most impressive in recent years, as Lille overcame the financial powerhouses of Paris Saint-Germain to secure the championship. Over 167 league appearances with Lille, Bamba tallied 27 goals and 25 assists, cementing his reputation as a dynamic attacking threat.
After moving to Celta Vigo ahead of the 2023-2024 La Liga season, Bamba added three goals and three assists in over 2,700 league minutes even as the team struggled.
On the international stage, Bamba represents the Ivory Coast, a country known for its deep talent pool of footballing stars. Breaking into the Ivorian national team is no small feat, given the nation’s storied history of producing world-class players. Bamba has earned three caps and was part of the squad that triumphed in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as the host nation, further solidifying his status as a top-tier talent.
If the deal is finalized, Chicago Fire will be acquiring an explosive winger who can score and create chances for his team. This though a lesser know pick up may be one of the most impactful in recent years. Look for the former Ligue 1 champion to make an immediate impact.
