According to The Athletic, Columbus Crew signs Uruguayan forward Diego Rossi from Fenerbahce on transfer deadline day. The deal, worth $5.63 million with potential add-ons of $1 million and a 15 percent sell-on fee, brings excitement to the club. MLS faithful will recall him previously playing for LAFC before joining Fenerbahce in 2021.
He quickly became a star in the MLS as winger scored 59 goals and 22 assists in 121 matches, winning the 2020 MLS Golden Boot and earning two MLS All-Star selections. During his stint with Fenerbahce his stats highlighted him more of a play maker racking up 10 goals and 20 assists in 90 appearances with the Turkish side.
The 25-year-old is expected to play more centrally in Wilfried Nancy’s system, which utilizes wingbacks. Rossi’s arrival comes as the Crew leads the league with 45 goals. The Crew faces Minnesota United in the Leagues Cup before returning to MLS play against FC Cincinnati on August 20.
